Weddings in Liguria: Sea, Mountains and the Feeling of Being There

A landscape shaped by contrast and integration

Liguria is defined by contrast, but also by how everything fits together.

Sea and mountains exist side by side, often within the same frame.
Villages, terraces and cultivated land are not separate from nature, they are part of it, built into it, almost carved within the landscape.

Stone, vegetation and architecture follow the same lines.

Colors emerge from this balance.
Reds, yellows and warm tones of the old fishing villages stand out against darker rocks and the depth of the sea, creating a visual identity that is instantly recognizable.

A wedding here becomes part of this integration.

Between elevation and depth.
Between structure and spontaneity.
Between the presence of the landscape and the life happening inside it.

Gulf of La Spezia: openness within a defined space

The Gulf of La Spezia carries a unique contrast.

It is a closed form, a gulf, that opens completely once you are inside it.

From Lerici to Portovenere, the perspective expands across the water, creating a sense of openness contained within a defined geography.

Portovenere stands at the edge, marked by the Church of San Pietro, built in alternating white and black stone, directly above the sea.

In front of it, the islands extend the view, adding layers of distance across the horizon.

This area is deeply connected to history.

Castles, villas and larger structures overlook the coastline, offering spaces where weddings can unfold with a sense of scale and presence.

Here, the sea is not isolated.

It is framed by architecture, by history, and by a landscape that allows both intimacy and openness at the same time.

At sunset, the light moves across the gulf, reflecting on the water and filling the entire space with clarity.

Cinque Terre: vertical life between village and terraces

In the Cinque Terre, the landscape becomes vertical and deeply connected.

Villages rise from the sea along steep, darker cliffs, where the contrast between stone and the vivid colors of the buildings becomes part of the identity.

Places like Monterosso al Mare, one of the most iconic settings for a Cinque Terre wedding in Italy, reflect this balance perfectly.

Ceremonies often take place within the villages, close to the water, in historic churches that feel rooted in the life of the place.

From there, the day naturally moves upward.

Receptions unfold on terraces above the coastline, surrounded by vineyards and overlooking the entire structure of the village.

There is a clear rhythm in this progression.

From the village to the terraces.
From the sea to the height.

Paths carved along the cliffs, like the well-known coastal walks connecting the villages, become part of the experience, creating moments where the landscape is lived, not just seen.

At sunset, the light softens and spreads across the terraces, enhancing the relationship between vegetation, architecture and sea.

Portofino and Santa Margherita: elegance and exclusivity

Along the Italian Riviera, Portofino and Santa Margherita represent one of the most sought-after settings for a destination wedding in Italy.

Here, everything is concentrated and defined.

Portofino is a small harbor with a global presence, shaped by a single road, historic villas along the coastline, and the presence of Monte di Portofino rising just behind it.

This creates a unique balance between exclusivity and landscape.

Elegant hotels overlooking the harbor host some of the most refined wedding receptions, where the view becomes part of the experience itself.

Santa Margherita offers a complementary dimension.

A town with historic villas and several churches, including the Chiesa di San Giacomo di Corte e Santuario di Nostra Signora della Lettera, known for its presence and architectural character.

A wedding here moves between structured spaces and the natural openness of the sea.

Between intimacy and elegance.

Between a place that feels curated and one that remains deeply connected to its surroundings.

Some places begin to exist in the imagination long before the journey starts, and once there, they unfold naturally, allowing you to feel part of them rather than simply observing them.

Western Liguria: light, climate and a softer landscape

In the western part of Liguria, the landscape opens and softens.

The coastline extends in both directions, creating wider views and a more continuous relationship with the sea.

Cliffs become lighter, often white or pale, reflecting light in a more diffused and even way compared to the darker tones of the eastern coast.

This creates a different atmosphere, more gradual and extended.

The presence of islands such as Gallinara and Bergeggi introduces rhythm within this openness, acting as quiet points across the water.

This area is also known as the Riviera dei Fiori.

A region shaped by a mild climate throughout the year, where flowers and vegetation grow naturally and abundantly.

Colors here are more spread across the landscape, less concentrated, more integrated.

This creates a subtle connection with the idea of a wedding.

Floral elements are already part of the environment, not something added to it.

The Riviera beyond Italy

The Ligurian Riviera continues beyond the Italian border, extending into the French Riviera, from the Côte d’Azur to places like Saint-Tropez.

Here, the landscape changes in tone.

Mountains give way to softer hills, and the coastline becomes more fluid and open.

Architecture moves towards lighter stone, often white or pale, with accents of color introduced by elements such as bougainvillea.

The atmosphere becomes more diffused.

More relaxed, more centered on light and social life.

This part of the Riviera offers a different interpretation of the same idea.

A place to experience rather than to define.

We have spent time working and creating here as well, especially through more intimate elopements and couple sessions, where the connection to the place becomes more personal and direct.

Our approach to weddings in Liguria

Working in Liguria means moving across different balances.

Between openness and verticality.
Between strong contrasts and softer landscapes.
Between iconic locations and more hidden places.

Each area carries its own language.

From the structured presence of historic villas and exclusive hotels,
to the layered life of villages and terraces,
to the openness of a wider coastline shaped by light and climate.

Knowing a place means understanding how all these elements, from the largest landscape to the smallest detail, come together to create a story that feels complete.

Our work follows this.

We stay within the flow of the day, guiding when needed, allowing each moment to remain connected to its surroundings.

At the same time, we interpret what defines that place.

Its colors, light, depth and, especially, atmosphere.

So that every wedding reflects both the place it belongs to and the people living it. This is what allows our photography to remain consistent, while always adapting to the place and the people within it.
